A mat is a hard floor covering that generally is placed on a floor or other flat surface. Mats serve a range of purposes including: serving to clean items passed over it, such as a doormat, which removes dirt from the soles of shoes.

   Absorbent       The mat surfaces can take up water or liquids and hold them within a confined volume.  Such materials are often used when the ability to hold many times the basis weight of the material is important.  
   Anti-Fatigue       Anti-fatigue mats are springy in order to reduce the fatigue that workers experience from standing for long periods of time. 
   Anti-Static       Anti-static mats prevent the generation or build-up of electrostatic charges. All static dissipative mats are also anti-static because the ESD mats eliminate or drain charges, but not all anti-static mats are ESD mats. Semi-conductive mats dissipate charge more slowly compared to conductive mats. 
   Bath / Shower Mat       Bath mats and shower mats are designed to absorb and/or protect against water in hygienic and cleanroom baths and showers. 
   Cart Traffic       Cart traffic mats are designed with high crush resistance to withstand traffic from industrial plant vehicles such as forklifts, motorized carts and dollies, etc  
   Cleanroom / Tacky       Cleanroom and tacky mats are designed for applications where particulate contamination level must be eliminated or minimized.  These mats are typically used on the entrance way into a cleanroom. They have a sticky or adhesive surface that captures dirt, dust and other particles from the bottom of a boot, which helps maintain a high cleanliness environment or low particle levels in the cleanroom. 
   Drainage Mat       Drainage mats are designed to capture mud and water from workers' boots. They may have an actual drain, or simply air-dry. 
   Entrance Mat       Entrance mats are designed for the heavy traffic and aesthetic requirements of building entrances. 
   ESD / Static Dissipative       ESD control or static dissipative mats removes the charge from generated by triboelectric activities (movement of people, chairs, etc.).  Static dissipative mats eliminate charges when the mat contacts the charged person or equipment. The mats should be grounded to provide a path for the charge to dissipate or drain to. Mats for static control can be conductive or semi-conductive. Semi-conductive mats dissipate charge more slowly compared to conductive mats.  All static dissipative mats are also anti-static because the ESD mats eliminate or drain charges, but not all anti-static mats are ESD mats. 
   Food Production / Sanitary Mat       Food production and sanitary mats are designed to be easily cleaned & sanitized. Typically, they feature an easily-washable design to help prevent the growth of germs or bacteria. They typically consist or 100% microbial resistance or anti-microbial materials.  Sanitary mats are used in food processing and pharmaceutical plants. 
   Scraper Mat       Scraper mats are used to remove mud, dirt, snow, etc. from workers' shoes before entering a building. 
   Stair Tread       Stair treads are designed to fit the tops of stairs for comfort or safety considerations. 
   Welding Mat       Welding mats are designed to withstand occasional sparks and weld splatter during a welding operation. While welding mats are constructed from materials with higher thermal stability compared general purpose mats, they are not designed for continuous high temperature service. 
   Specialty / Other       Other unlisted, specialized, or proprietary mat types.

   Width       The width or short dimension of the mat.

   Length       The length or long dimension of the mat. This measurement may include the total length of the roll.

   Warranty       The warranty of the product in years provides an indication of the durability, wear resistance and quality of the product. The warranty guarantees the product against defects and/or performance degradation for a period of time specified by the manufacturer. A product with a longer warranty will likely consist of heavy-duty design constructed of thicker layers, as well as more durable and abrasion resistant materials. Warranty is not equivalent to product life, but typically a product with a longer warranty will

   Conductive       The mat conducts electricity.  Conductive mats are typically dissipating charges more quickly compared to semi-conductive or low conductivity mats. 
   Nonconductive       Non-conductive mats resist electrical conductivity. Nonconductive mats are typically used in switchboard applications to protect the workers from high voltages. 
   Chemical Resistant       Chemical resistant mats are made of chemically-inert materials, or are designed to resist common industrial chemicals and liquids. 
   Grease & Oil Resistant       Grease and oil resistant mats have ribs or holes to prevent the creation of greasy, slippery surfaces. These mats are typically constructed using materials that are resistant to cutting fluids, minerals oils, vegetable oils, animal fats, mineral oil, EDM fluids, petroleum, dielectric greases, lubricants and/or transformer oils. Contact the manufacturer for further details on mat suitability or resistant to the specific oils, greases and fluids in your application. 
   Heated       Heated mats contain wires or coils for heating. 
   Mil-Spec       Mat meets Mil-DTL-15562G or other Mil-Spec specifications concerning mat performance.  Mil-DTL-15562G is a specification for nonconductive mats. 
   Outdoor / Exterior       Mat is designed or suitable for outdoor applications or in exterior areas around the building or facility. 
   Ribbed / Corrugated       Mats have a ribbed surface to improve traction, drainage, etc. 
   Slip Resistant / Traction       Traction mats are designed to provide a high-traction surface for personal and in some cases small vehicles.
